The Citywide Groundwater Emergency Taskforce was formed as a citizens group in 2002 to draw attention to the severe groundwater problems initially understood to be confined primarily to the landfill neighborhoods of:

• Back Bay • Bay Village • Chinatown
• Fenway • South End • Beacon Hill Flats

Increased monitoring of groundwater levels now shows the problem of groundwater insufficiency and instability extends beyond these boundaries, and may include:

• Leather District • Fort Point Channel • Faneuil Hall Area
• Waterfront • Bullfinch Triangle • Charlestown
• North End • East Boston

Citywide GET has formed a coalition of neighborhood and civic associations across the city to work closely with city and state agencies, authorities and elected officials to address this urgent problem.  Citywide GET endorses a three-part program of monitor, repair, and prevention for effective, long-term groundwater management.

Community Support

Since Citywide GET was formed in 2002, we have established broad membership of property owners in all the affected neighborhoods and earned recognition and support from many community associations and leaders.
