The Citywide Groundwater Emergency Taskforce was formed
as a citizens group in 2002 to draw attention to the severe
groundwater problems initially understood to be confined primarily
to the landfill neighborhoods of:
| • Back Bay |
• Bay Village |
• Chinatown |
| • Fenway |
• South End |
• Beacon Hill Flats |
Increased monitoring of groundwater levels now shows the problem
of groundwater insufficiency and instability extends beyond
these boundaries, and may include:
| • Leather District |
• Fort Point Channel |
• Faneuil Hall Area |
| • Waterfront |
• Bullfinch Triangle |
• Charlestown |
| • North End |
• East Boston |
|
Citywide GET has formed a coalition of neighborhood and civic
associations across the city to work closely with city and
state agencies, authorities and elected officials to address
this urgent problem. Citywide GET endorses a three-part
program of monitor, repair, and prevention for effective, long-term
groundwater management.
